After a rainy and cool day yesterday, the Roaring Fork Valley awoke to hints of winter (ie snow) frosting the high peaks. From Independence Pass to Snowmass, and even to Basalt Mountain, snow can be seen creeping down the ski slopes. Although we're still in fall, and expect the temperatures to rise this week, winter is nipping at our toes!
Die hard fans of the Colorado Avalanche and Detroit Red Wings rejoice! Tomorrow night you can revel in your storied rivalry as Av and Red Wings alumni take to the ice in support of Aspen Junior Hockey's scholarship fund. The puck drops at 5pm at the Lewis Ice Arena in the Aspen Rec Center. The hockey game is the first event in the Stirling Cup All-Star weekend, honoring the memory of Aspen local Stirling Cooper. The 47th annual test of brawny men (and women) in short shorts, Aspen Ruggerfest, is taking place this year from September 18-21. Hosted by Aspen’s own Gentlemen of Aspen team, Ruggerfest is a world-class rugby tournament with more than 40 teams from all over the US, South America and Europe. Five divisions of play will be highlighted during the event and the matches are guaranteed to be rough, tough and dirty – just the way these athletes like it!
